Summary: Denmark
Relations between pharmaceutical companies and government have been frosty as the government has concentrated on measures to cut the drug bill. A series of price freezes antagonised the industry to the point of complaining to the EC about unfair policies. Although prices are not enforced, the government continues to promote generics, parallel imports and the deregulation of non-prescription medicines to encourage price pressure. In 2001, strict generic substitution rules were introduced. Currently all reimbursed products are undergoing “reassessment” of their reimbursement status. New rules on reimbursement were introduced in April 2005.
